Summerside awarded 18U “AA” Atlantic Championships

SUMMERSIDE | Another baseball event is coming to Summerside this summer. Summerside Baseball announced on Tuesday that they have been awarded the 2019 Baseball Atlantic 18U “AA” Championships.

It was only a short time ago when Summerside Baseball in partnership with Sport Entertainment Tourism Summerside (SETS) submitted a bid proposal to Baseball Atlantic & Baseball PEI indicating that they wanted to host this championship right here in Summerside.

After a few weeks of waiting, Randy Byrne, Executive Director of Baseball PEI delivered the news to Summerside Baseball’s Executive indicating they were, in fact, the successful bidder.

Baseball PEI is excited to have Summerside hosting the 2019 Baseball Atlantic 18U ‘AA’ Championships. Summerside has a long history of hosting Regional, Atlantic and National Championships and is known for its strong organization and ability to put on high quality events for all players and teams attending. There is no doubt this will again be the case with Summerside hosting the 2019 Baseball Atlantic 18U Championships at Queen Elizabeth Park” said Byrne.

The Board of Directors along with the Host team for Summerside is excited to beginning the planning process of the Championship and reviewing the requirements laid out by Baseball Atlantic.

It’s starting to feel like these kinds of announcements are no longer news. One could say we are just continuing to build off of a tradition; a tradition that was created by hard work and dedicated individuals in this great city. Today, an announcement of another sporting event coming to Summerside. Tomorrow, we will go back to work and continue to search for the next opportunity to bring to “Canada’s Tournament Town”, said Tanner Doiron

Summerside Baseball would like to thank the City of Summerside’s Sport Entertainment Tourism (SETS) Team, a division of the City’s Community Services Department, for there continued support and assistance with the landing of this championship. The SETS team were very accommodating in providing the resources we needed to bring the 18U “AA” Atlantics here to Summerside, such as the Host facility, creation of the bid document and additional resources that may be needed during the championship.

On behalf of Sport Entertainment Tourism Summerside, we are extremely excited on the news that Summerside Baseball will be hosting the 2019 18U “AA” Atlantic Championships this season mentioned JP Desrosiers. Events like this bring many visitors from out of province to our City and we couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Summerside Baseball and bringing yet another fantastic baseball event to Summerside
