Chevys 18U “AA” Clings to Victory as Cardigan Nearly Erases 6-Run Deficit

SUMMERSIDE, PE – Despite seeing its six-run lead whittled down by the end, Chevys 18U AA still held off Cardigan for a 7-5 victory on Monday.  Cardigan scored four runs in the failed comeback on an error, a fielder’s choice by Sam MacKenzie, a single by Sam MacDonald, and a walk by Ryan MacDonald.


Cardigan scored four runs in the seventh inning, but Chevys 18U AA still managed to pull out the victory.  The big inning for Cardigan came thanks to a walk by MacDonald, a single by MacDonald, a fielder’s choice by MacKenzie, and an error on a ball put in play by Tyler Jones.


The Chevys got things moving in the second inning, when Nic Gunning singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run. Chevys 18U AA notched three runs in the sixth inning. Chevys 18U AA scored its runs on an RBI home run by Duncan Picketts.


Jacob Dunn took the win for Chevys 18U AA. He surrendered one run on four hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one.  Gunning and Ty Arsenault entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.  Arsenault recorded the last out to earn the save for Chevys 18U AA.


Jack MacKenzie took the loss for Cardigan. He lasted three innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out three. MacKenzie started the game for Cardigan. He surrendered one run on two hits over two innings, striking out five and walking zero Connor Ellsworth started the game for Chevys 18U AA. He allowed three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking one


Chevys 18U AA socked one home run on the day. Picketts had a homer in the sixth inning. Chevys 18U AA tallied nine hits.  Garrett Culleton and Cody McCormack all collected multiple hits for Chevys 18U AA.  McCormack and Culleton all had three hits to lead Chevys 18U AA.


MacDonald went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Cardigan in hits.
