SABA ANNOUNCES NEW “TRYOUT COMMITTEE”

The Summerside Area Baseball Association is announcing a new commitee for the 2019 season.

The SABA Board of Directors passed a motion at it’s Annual General Meeting in October to introduce an independent body, the “Tryout Committee” for the upcoming season. This committee will now take over the role of overseeing tryouts, which was previously the role and responsibility of the SABA Board of Directors.

The committee’s responsibilities will be to Watch, Analyze, Discuss and come up with a final roster at the end of the Tryout Process with the BEST athletes on the list possible. The Committee will be made up of three (3) individuals who will bring different sets of skills and knowledge when it comes to the sport of baseball, but also #Chevys Baseball. These individuals will be appointed by the President & General Manager of the Association and will have little and or no conflict to the Membership and or Board of Directors.

The goal for this new committee will be to provide a more transparent, non-biased and productive approach to the Tryout Selection Process within the association. The members who will make up this committee will not be on the field helping run stations during the tryouts. They will be in the stands paying close attention to every detail and will have no interaction with any Coaches and or Parents during the entire on-field process.

The responsibility of the selection process for the final roster is not completely being stripped away of our hard-working, volunteer coaches. The Committee is simply being introduced to provide more insight, more accountability and more resources for some of the toughest situations coaches and the association have to incur in a season. Following the Tryout end, the Head Coach for the respective team will have the opportunity to submit his own roster to the committee for review to which will be cross-referenced with their own.

The three (3) members of the newly announced committee are currently being selected and are expected to be announced sometime within the month of February.
