SUMMERSIDE, PE | For the first time, in conjunction with minor baseball associations across Prince Edward Island, Baseball PEI will be piloting a fall baseball program over approximately 5 weeks, starting on the weekend of 26-27 September and running until approximately 24-25 October.
The plan for fall baseball programming includes:
Untiered divisions at 11U, 13U, 15U and 18U. Untiered means there will be just one 11U division, one 13U division and et cetera (no “AAA”, “AA” or “A”). If an association has more than one team in a division, they will be asked to distribute the talent as evenly as possible between the teams.
- Each team plays between 6-8 games over the first four weeks, and then have a season-ending event on the last weekend.
The plan is between three-four teams meet at a field on Saturday and play one-two games. If games on Saturday are rained out, they will be played on Sunday, or even on a weekday evening if the teams agree.
- The goal is to limit travel for teams as much as possible.
All divisions will follow the playing rules of that age category’s “AAA” division during the summer, including any games still continuing after hitting the two-hour mark from the time of the first pitch will finish the inning it’s in and no new innings will begin (except in the year-end event/playoffs/tournament), and there will be no extra innings.
Players must register within their local association; if their local association isn’t taking part in fall baseball this year or do not have the numbers to offer a team in a certain division, a player can then register with a neighbouring association. Local associations will hold registration for fall baseball over the next few weeks, beginning within the next week or two. When Baseball PEI received details from a minor baseball association about their fall baseball registration process, we will post it on the Baseball PEI website and our social media platforms.
- The primary focus of the 2020 Baseball PEI fall baseball pilot is for players to have fun and play in a less tiered environment than would be played in regular summer baseball programming.
Summerside Baseball will be releasing more information on how to register soon!
