Bats were blistered as Summerside 18U AA Chevys defeated Cornwall Cougars 19-7 on Thursday.
Cornwall Cougars fired up the offense in the first inning. Keefe Marshall doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Summerside 18U AA Chevys pulled away for good with eight runs in the third inning. In the third Parker Gallant drew a walk, scoring one run, Connor Ellsworth singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs, Duncan Picketts drew a walk, scoring one run, Cody McCormack drew a walk, scoring one run, Ty Arsenault doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs, and Liam Greenan grounded out, scoring one run.
Summerside 18U AA Chevys put up nine runs in the sixth inning. Summerside 18U AA Chevys offense in the inning was led by Picketts, McCormack, Arsenault, Greenan, Ben Gallant, and Gallant, all driving in runs in the inning.
Cornwall Cougars scored three runs in the fourth inning. Christopher MacDougall and Marshall powered the big inning with RBIs.
Owen Lynch was the winning pitcher for Summerside 18U AA Chevys. He went three innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out four. Kalib Snow threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
MacDougall took the loss for Cornwall Cougars. He surrendered nine runs on six hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four.
Summerside 18U AA Chevys scattered 16 hits in the game. Garrett Culleton, Arsenault, Ellsworth, Greenan, and Snow all managed multiple hits for Summerside 18U AA Chevys. Culleton led Summerside 18U AA Chevys with four hits in five at bats. Greenan led Summerside 18U AA Chevys with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases.
Cornwall Cougars racked up seven hits on the day. Calen MacPhail and Marshall each racked up multiple hits for Cornwall Cougars. Cornwall Cougars was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Jordan Mahar made the most plays with six.
