SABA “AAA” & 18U “AA” COACHES ANNOUNCED

The Summerside Area Baseball Association (SABA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the individuals who will lead SABA’s higher level teams this season. After a near month-long application process for all “AAA” and 18U “AA” teams, the submission deadline closed Friday, February 1st. The process then turned to the Board of Directors to review the applicants and their information while selecting the best candidate(s) for the positions. That was completed this past week and SABA is now pleased to announce the selected individuals.

MEET THE COACHES:

11U “AAA” -Sean Campbell

Entering in his second season as Head Coach of the Mosquito “AAA”, Sean Campbell aims to improve on last seasons silver medal finish at the Baseball PEI Provincial Championships. Sean has been coaching baseball since 2014 at various 11U levels and is looking forward to getting started on a great and exciting year of Baseball.

13U “AAA” -Wes Echlin

An Ontario native who grew up as a multi-sport athlete, playing Hockey, Lacrosse, Football, and Baseball will lead this year’s Peewee “AAA” Chevys’ team. Echlin, who found himself playing Junior “A” hockey in Ontario before beginning to coach various sports over the past 20-years, including most recently, one of the Assistant Coaches for the 2018 National Atlantic Peewee AAA Hosts, the Summerside Chevys’. Wes cannot wait to begin working with this team. His goal is to give the players as many opportunities to develop and win games as he can.

15U “AAA” – Mikeal Thomas & Rob McCormack

M.T – Mikeal Thomas will be entering his 6th season of coaching Chevys’ teams – including previous experience at the Bantam, Peewee, and Mosquito levels. A former Bantam AAA Chevys player in his own right, Thomas now works for Holland College as the Athletics and Events Coordination Officer where he manages several varsity sports, including the Hurricanes’ baseball program, and he coordinates more than 35 athletic department events each year. Mikeal currently resides in Charlottetown, PEI.

R. M – Rob McCormack has been coaching baseball for 15 years at various levels. He took the Bantam “AAA” Summerside Chevys to the Nationals in Vaughn, Ontario in 2014 and also coached them at the Baseball Canada National Championships in Summerside, PEI in 2016. He has coached many other high level teams including the Provincial Midget All-Stars, The PEI Youth Selects and is the current head coach for the Provincial 15U Team. He has coached the last 5 seasons in Summerside while leading 3 of these teams to provincial championships and one Atlantic Championship.


18U “AA” – Tammy Gallant & Dale MacDougall

T.G – Tammy Gallant, who is coming off a 2018 Season Provincial Title as Head Coach at the 18U Midget “A” level will look to the lead the “AA” team to a provincial title of their own this coming ball season. Gallant has served as an Assistant Coach at the Peewee “AA” level in 2015 winning a provincial title that season and getting a taste of an Atlantic Championship in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia season. Furthermore, she served as Assistant Coach on the Bantam “AA” Chevys’ team in 2017, the same year they hosted Atlantics right here in Summerside! On top of all this, Tammy as coached Baseball within the PEI School Athletics Association for 7-8 years and has experience coaching in the sport of softball including the Acadian Games in the early ’90s for 4-5 years!

D.M –  Dale MacDougall started coaching Chevy Baseball back in 2009 and has successfully won 4 Island Championships. These Provincial titles include Peewee “AAA” Chevys’ in 2013 and 2014 along with the 2015 and 2016 Bantam “AAA” Chevys’. MacDougall has also claimed National Atlantic Championships in both Peewee and Bantam “AAA” during the 2014 and 2016 season respectively. He coached the 2016 Ray Carter Cup National Host Team to a 3 and 3 record with our Chevy Club team. At the Provincial level, MacDougall had the opportunity to coach the Midget All-Stars in 2017 and has served as Assistant Coach and continues to do so with the PEI Youth Selects team last season and this upcoming season.
